Bearthday Celebration

Okay, folks, so this is incredibly late in coming, but still, it must be documented. And for all of you that have been wondering when I was going to blog about this...ahem, Craig...now you don't have to wait any more.

Our oldest child turned 8(!) in March and we had a celebration to end all celebrations, I tell you. Since Julia's birthday coincided with the weekend, and pre-dated Spencer's due date by just a few short weeks, we decided to make the best out of it and get out of town for a while, especially since we knew it'd be a while before we did anything like this again. (Case in point: we haven't done anything like this since.) Basically, we rolled her birthday celebration into one fun mini-vacation for the whole family and we loved every minute.

The agenda was:

1} Build-a-Bear
2} Drive to Prescott
3} Red Robin for dinner
4} Hotel Pool
5} Presents
6} Hotel Pool
7} Check Out
8} Prescott Zoo

Does that seem like a lot for a one-night stay out of town? It was. We sure packed it in and we had an amazing time.

Fasten your seat belts, friends, and get ready for a bear-load of pictures.

First stop: Build-a-Bear. Due to a little lack of communication and planning on our parts, we ended up getting bears (well, one rabbit) for all of the girls. Not quite what I had planned, but is it ever?

While the younger girls were diligently de-fuzzing their bears,
Julia was already on the lookout for accessories. So like her!

Next: Drive to Prescott. The trip was pretty uneventful, but we did get one good pic out of it:

Next stop: Red Robin. Here we were reminded of why we never take our children out to eat. (They don't eat any of what they order. Oh, and also they complain the whole time. Should've gone with my gut and taken them to In-N-Out.)

If memory serves, the only thing that any of them
finished was their sodas and root beer floats.

Next stop: Hotel pool. We had never been to Prescott before, much less this specific hotel, but Craig sure picked a winner. The pool was indoors and so much fun. While the girls and Craig splashed and played, I enjoyed the heck out of floating around like Mommy Manatee and, for the first time in months, not feeling the weight and pressure of my bulging baby belly. (How's that for alliteration?) Sorry, no pics of that one.

(Okay, so this part didn't technically happen at the pool, but it needed to be included.)

Next: Presents! In the midst of all of our family fun, we almost forgot to do the birthday presents. So, she opened these well past everyone's bedtime.

Cutie Girl. I really can't believe she's 8.
(And that I'm 25 + 8)

Next: More hotel pool! We hit the pool again in the morning after breakfast. Which means the continental breakfast was still open. Which means we all nearly drank our weight in hot chocolate while chilling at the poolside. If you have never combined hot chocolate and a heated indoor swimming pool, I highly recommend it.

Can you see why we loved this place??

Next: Check-out. (We may be smiling here, but we were really sad to leave, I promise.)

Goodbye, amazing hotel with the delicious hot chocolate and fun pool!

Next Stop: Prescott Zoo. This was no Phoenix Zoo, people; we might not go back. Fortunately for us, there was a Groupon involved (isn't there always a Groupon involved?) and the weather was spectacular. I mean, we wore pants and everything.

Good gravy, what a fun weekend! Can't wait to go back.

Minus the zoo.

And minus the belly.
